1-9/16" shallow Thos Ibbotson Sheffield tang style wood paring gouge 16+" long:
$52.00

You are offerding on one Thomas Ibbotson & Company 1-9/16" shallow tang style wood gouge as pictured.

It is marked "THOS IBBOTSON & CO CAST STEEL" with his logo (twice) on the top of the blade and neck. It also has an owner name stamped twice on the handle.

Actual width at the sharp edge, measured outside edge to outside edge, is just over 1-9/16".

Length of the blade, from the sharp edge to where it starts to narrow down to the neck, is about 8-1/8". Overall length including the handle is about 16-5/16".

Thomas Ibbotson and his successors made edge tools and other tools in Sheffield, England, from about 1823 to 1095, when they were acquired by William Marples & Sons. Marples continued to use the Ibbotson name after that. Please see the book Goodman's British Planemakers 4th Edition for more information about Ibbotson.

Condition of the blade is good, with a light patina (color), some light scratches, and some faint stains that are likely cosmoline or grease residue on the front side. The back side has some grinding marks from a cleaning, some patina (color), and one faint hint of pitting up near the neck. It will want a more even sharpening.

Condition of the handle is good, with some staining and a slight mushrooming on the struck end. It seems quite tight on the tang.

SHIPPING: 2 pounds when boxed, shipped US Postal Service Ground Advantage, insurance and tracking are included. NoInternational shipping.

l sell what I enjoy, and I collect antique woodworking tools andI enjoy photography! The queue is overflowing with tools right now, as they seem to be finding me faster than I can list them. So please keep watching as I have LOTS more to list!

ETHICS IN DESCRIPTIONS: I also buy for my collecting on , and I have been burned too many times by misleading (duh did I forget to mention .......) descriptions, and sales with pictures only of the left side because the right side was trashed. Life is much simpler for me if I disclose what I know or see about an item before you offer, and especially before you receive it in the mail. I come from the handshake school of doing business, and hopefully you are like me and understand what that means. What goes around, comes around.

RETURN POLICY: I believe that if you give honest descriptions, and include enough pictures, you shouldn't need a return policy. However, that doesn't mean that I won't make an occasional mistake. Please offer with the assurance that if I have made an error in my listing, I WILL take care of you.

SHIPPING: I use the US Post Office for everything. If the value is $250 or over, I will always require a delivery confirmation signature, which requires for the buyer and seller protections to be in effect.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: I no longer ship Internationally other than Canada. If you are in Canada, ask for what the shipping would cost, but be prepared for it to be $$$$$.

NEWSLETTER:Every Friday sends out an email with my newsletter featuring 10 of my most interesting new listings. To subscribe, click on the heart symbol that is labeled SAVE SELLER, and that will automatically get you on the mailing list for the newsletters. They are free, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

SELLING OUTSIDE OF : Why would I risk my lengthy good standing with to save you a couple of dollars? Especially when you ask on an email that is sent through the email system which they are reading? Please don't ask, the answer is no.

sales: I won’t end an sale listing early to sell it to you directly. As a buyer, I really dislike going back at the end of an sale to offer, only to discover that the seller had ended the sale early. So I won’t do that for you, or to you.

PACKAGING: Please check my response -- I package well. I understand how disappointing it is to receive a purchase where the seller clearly didn't care about how it was packaged. I work to package everything with lots of protection for it, and I always use a new box or new envelope.

OFFERS: I will always consider an offer, some longer than others. Your best chance of success happens if the item has been listed for a while, your offer is reasonable (to me!), and you are a regular customer.

I am a long-time active member of the PNTC or Pacific Northwest Tool Collectors, and a long distance member of the MWTCA or Mid-West Tool Collectors Association. And once in a while I might turn up at a PAST meeting!

I hope someday I will meet some of you as we trudge the happy road of tool collecting!
