“Violet Phantom Castle” Madagascar Amethyst Skeletal Quartz Twin Crystal: $36.10
Measurements & WeightWeight 90.6 g 0.0906 kg 3.20 oz 0.200 lb 453 carats⸻DimensionsLength: 61.44 mm / 6.144 cm / 2.42 inches Width: 42.40 mm / 4.240 cm / 1.67 inches⸻DescriptionThis piece comes from my personal collection, carefully kept as a natural mineral display specimen.“Violet Phantom Castle” is a naturally intergrown amethyst quartz specimen from Madagascar, distinguished by two closely joined violet crystal points, deep purple mountain-like interior patterns, pale frosted surfaces, and contrasting dark mineral scenery on the reverse. Its silhouette resembles a small ancient castle with twin towers rising through mist.Twin Castle FormationTwo pointed crystals grow closely together, forming a sculptural, castle-like pair. Their individual terminations and prism faces remain recognizable, while the lower bodies are united through natural intergrowth. The unequal heights, overlapping edges, and small adjoining growths create a balanced but distinctly natural shape. This is an intergrown crystal pair, not a claim of crystallographic twinning.Deep Violet Phantom-Like SceneryThe upper sections contain rich violet concentrations that resemble hidden mountains enclosed within quartz. The two points display different depths of purple, from deep violet near the tips to soft lavender and pale milky areas below. This uneven distribution creates beautiful internal color zoning and a layered, phantom-like effect. The purple is visible through partially translucent surfaces, especially under directional light. The mountain-like patterns are described visually; their exact growth history has not been confirmed.Internal Clouds and White Frosted SkinDense, cloud-like features extend through the interior, softening the purple scenery and giving the quartz an atmospheric depth. A white, misty-looking outer skin covers substantial areas of the crystal. Some faces are hazy or matte, while others retain a smoother, glassier luster. The contrast between translucent violet tips, milky lower sections, frosted faces, and reflective edges produces an aged, “old-soul” appearance, as though the twin towers were surrounded by fog.Skeletal-Like Growth and Surface TextureThe specimen shows localized stepped and layered growth, uneven crystal contacts, and textured edges. These are best described as skeletal-like growth features rather than hollow skeletal cavities. Its form is solid-looking, without an obvious openwork or windowed structure. Small side growths, natural lines, shallow recesses, and changes in surface luster add complexity. These features are part of its visible natural morphology, not evidence of a specific growth mechanism established by laboratory study.Black Phantom Outline on the ReverseThe back reveals darker, mountain-shaped scenery with black mineral speckling and sketch-like outlines. Fine dark areas appear to trace irregular boundaries, resembling charcoal or pencil strokes across pale quartz. “Sketch-Like Black Phantom Outline” is an evocative descriptive phrase for this appearance, rather than a confirmed mineralogical identification of a true phantom. The precise dark mineral species remains unidentified.Warm Mineral AssociationsRust-brown, ochre, and localized golden-yellow mineral staining occurs around certain edges, contacts, and reverse-side crevices. These warm tones contrast with the dark speckling, soft gray-white quartz, and violet tips. The coloration is iron-oxide-like in appearance, but no laboratory identification is claimed. Together with the darker patches, these deposits give the reverse a rugged, mountain-landscape character. Two Distinct Display ViewsThe front emphasizes twin violet towers, deep purple phantom-like mountains, internal clouding, and a pale frosted veil. The reverse highlights black sketch-like mineral outlines, earthy brown staining, irregular growth textures, and smaller adjoining crystals. From the side, overlapping structures and changing translucency become more apparent. Each angle reveals a different aspect of the same natural formation. The name “Violet Phantom Castle” reflects this contrast: two purple towers above a misty quartz body, with shadowed mountain outlines hidden on the reverse. Its intergrown form, violet zoning, frosted exterior, skeletal-like surface growth, and contrasting mineral scenery make it an engaging natural specimen for a personal mineral collection or multi-angle display.
