An exceptionally attractive and scarce vintage Parker American Blade AB-29 compact hunter, manufactured in Seki, Japan, circa the 1980s and designed by the renowned Tak Fukuta. This is a less common variant etched with “Designed by Tak Fukuta” vs the more abundant version with the eagle alone. Measuring just 6.5” overall, this compact fixed-blade knife features a 2.625” AUS-6A stainless steel blade paired with a genuine smooth, yet highly figured and exceptionally colored, buffalo horn handle, handsome nickel silver bolster, and included nubuck leather sheath. The natural buffalo horn scales give this knife its distinctive traditional character, with the organic coloration and individual markings that make natural-handle knives appealing to collectors. AUS-6A stainless steel offers practical corrosion resistance, making this an attractive combination of classic styling and functional utility. The blade does show some patina, but presents very well with the factory edge intact and sharp.The designer’s pedigree adds considerable interest. Tak Fukuta was the first Japanese member of the American Knife Makers Guild and an apprentice of celebrated American custom knifemaker Bob Loveless. Fukuta’s work impressed his mentor, and his Seki-based manufacturing operation subsequently produced knives for numerous established American and international brands, including Parker, Valor, Gutmann, Explorer, Frost, and Browning. The AB-29 represents an interesting intersection of American-branded sporting cutlery and Japan’s longstanding tradition of precision knife manufacturing.Its compact proportions, natural buffalo horn scales which have a small manufacturing blemish (chip) that dors not affect function but is described and photographed for transparency, stainless steel blade, and beautiful and refined nubuck leather sheath make this a particularly appealing option for collectors of vintage Parker Cutlery, Tak Fukuta-associated knives, Japanese Seki-made hunting knives, and classic compact fixed blades.
