The Native American artwork is titled: \"Hano Clown Tree\" and was created by L.V. Barbaro. This handmade Hopi artifact features a tree filled with \"Koshari\" the sacred clowns of the Hopi people. These clowns are powerful figures and important to the Hopi community. They are considered \"fathers of the kachinas\" and use humor to satirize improper behaviour. They are known for their black & white stripes, top knot hair and mischievous behaviour that teaches social norms. They appear in ceremonies and are often depicted in traditional cottonwood root carvings as \"clowns in a tree\" or with watermelons that symbolize gluttony or over-consumption. This artwork is signed on the bottom by the artist(see photos). It is in excellent condition and measures approximately 15\" inches height by 5\" inches width.
