FW Widmann Type VI Eagle Pommel Infantry Officer’s Sword ca.1840-48: $399.00
Up for grabs is a very scarce chain-guard variant of an FW Widmann Type VI eaglehead sword dating from between 1840-1848. Displays Widmann’s distinctive grapevine-embossed ferrule, scalloped quillion, and of course his famous Type VI-b pommel. Although it’s quite well-executed I believe the wire grip is a later repair, Widman used much thinner wire to wrap his grips. German-import blade is solid, still displaying etched decorations although it’s missing all its bluing and most of its gilt. As is the case with about 80% of Widmanns I’ve seen, the scabbard is missing. This is a great way to own an authentic Widmann piece at a reasonable price.
