FW Widmann Signed Hunting Sword/Socket Bayonet ca.1828-1835: $1999.00
Extremely rare and probably unique FW Widmann socket bayonet/short sword. Masterfully etched with traditional hunting motifs as well as “FW Widmann” and “Philadelphia” on either side of the ricasso, this is one of only a handful of known Widmann pieces with his name etched on the blade; generally he would use a stamp that said “FW Widmann Philada.” or he would leave his work unsigned. This is an extremely important tool for Widmann collectors because it was personally etched by Widmann himself very early in his career and thus can be used to identify other Widmann-etched blades. The only flaw is the fact that the socket that would attach this to the end of a flintlock musket is missing as well as some moderate pitting on the blade as shown. As far as early American swords are concerned, this one is just about as scarce as they come.
