Antique A.Diesinger German Beer Stein DRGM 250635 Unusual Hinge Landsknecht and Maid c.1905
Description: This beautiful stein was made in Germany by Adolph Diesinger around 1890-1900. A.Diesinger is one of the most collectable beer stein manufacturers. His designs are unique and hard to confuse with anything else.
Made in "raised relief" technique, this stein is showing a scene in the forest with a Landsknecht (a Renaissance Soldier for hire) is sitting on a treestump and flirting with a maid.
The inscriptions read:
"Der Trunk sei klar, dein Lieb sei rar."
(May your drink be clear, your love be rare.)
The lid is mounted in the hinge molded of ceramics with the stein's body - this is one of the Diesinger's innovations - he was always trying to save on pewter.
The stein is marked on the bottom with DRGM 250635 mark - this is a patent mark, it refers to the hinge. The German patent number DRGM 250635 was awarded to Adolf Diesinger in 1905 for an unusual, though not particularly practical, ceramic hinge which saw only limited application. It was in use for about one year.
The stein is not marked but it could be easily and accurately attributed To Diesinger by this hinge type and decoration style.
Excellent condition. The stein is 6.5" tall to the top of the finial, 0.5L capacity
Condition: Excellent Year: circa 1905 Country: Germany Maker: A.Diesinger Height: 6.5 in. Materials: pottery
