LifeIn the early 1930s, Tao Sigulda studied architecture and graduated from Tode in Riga. At the same time, he began studying art with Roman Sutta. In 1933, he received a scholarship and went to the Stuttgart Art Academy (under Alfred Lörcher, among others). He traveled to Milan, Venice, Florence, Naples, and Palermo. Further stops in his career included Munich and Schwäbisch Gemünd.
In 1960, he traveled to Brazil with his wife Tama, originally intending to continue on to Canada. The following year, he participated in an exhibition at the Galeria Prestes Maia in São Paulo. Gradually, the couple began to put down roots in Brazil. Tama Sigulda was himself an art photographer and exhibited three works at the 9th São Paulo Bienal in 1967.
Between 1985 and 2001, he founded and established his own cultural center in Figueira Branca, Jarinu/Campo Limpo Paulista, where, alongside established artists, new talents were also promoted. He and his wife organized two group exhibitions per year.
A postage stamp was issued in Brazil to commemorate his 100th birthday.
