c1910s RPPC S.S. Steamer Spokane in Alaska Thwaite 5035

Original vintage RPPC . . . AZO stampblock – circa 1910s as she was renamed Admiral Rogers in 1921

Construction of the S.S. Spokane was completed in 1902 by Union Iron Works Co. in San Francisco to be in service to the Pacific Coast Steamship Company, with intentions of serving Alaskan tourist excursions, which she began in 1903. She suffered damages when she ran ashore in June of 1910 at Peril Straits, Alaska which resulted in costly repairs.

The following year, she hit an uncharted rock in Seymour Narrows and had her hull torn open underwater. She was driven to the safety of shallow waters and was towed by the steamer Salvor and was repaired by the British Columbia Salvage Company. In 1921, she was renamed Admiral Rogers and was scrapped by the early 1940s due to being unprofitable.
