Beautiful and uncommon Angel Wing Calcite specimen from Colorado, featuring an intricate arrangement of sharply defined, flattened crystal blades extending in multiple directions. The overlapping formations create a striking sculptural appearance, with impressive crystal detail throughout the cluster.
Angel Wing Calcite is a descriptive name for calcite exhibiting unusually flattened, wing-like crystal growth. This specimen was personally collected from the Niobrara Formation in Fremont County, Colorado, a Late Cretaceous marine sedimentary formation deposited approximately 87–82 million years ago. Mineral-rich fluids circulating through fractures and cavities allowed these distinctive calcite crystals to develop after the original sediments were deposited.
