ABOUT THIS SANTA
The snowflakes are what take the time. Small white geometric flakes cover the whole red coat, and a white scrolling vine runs along the hem. Each red mitten carries a white rosette, a green striped sash ties his waist, and the teal sack is scattered with yellow snowflake stars. Snow dusts the fur of his cap, his cuffs, his boot toes and the gold finial of the staff. Painting that pattern across a long, curved coat takes days of steady brushwork. He is caught mid-step, with the toe of a felt boot pushing out from under the hem. His mitten grips the gathered neck of the sack, which is part of the same carving as the figure. The staff lifts out of his hand when you pack him away. At 8 inches he fits on a shelf, a tabletop or an entryway table. A snowy Santa on his way, with a teal sack on his shoulder.
