Witch Hat Match Holder with Striker, Black Ceramic Halloween Home Decor:
$19.99

  • WITCHY DECOR THAT ALSO WORKS - Glossy black ceramic shaped like a witch's hat, 3 inches tall and 3 across. This witch hat decor earns its place on a bathroom counter, kitchen shelf or altar instead of just sitting there.
  • STRIKER BUILT INTO THE BASE - A replaceable match striker pad on the underside lights any standard match. Strike, light, done, with no hunting for a matchbox, so this decorative match holder stays useful long after the novelty wears off.
  • HOLDS 50 KITCHEN MATCHES - Sized for standard 2.25 inch matches, with the brim catching them as they slide out from under the cone. A matchstick holder and matches holder in one. Matches are not included.
  • STAYS OUT AFTER OCTOBER - Reads as witchy home decor and gothic home decor year round, not only as Halloween kitchen decor, so it doesn't go back in the box in November. Spooky home decor that still earns its shelf in March.
  • A GIFT FOR THE MODERN WITCH - Dark academia decor for candle burners, tarot readers and practical magic shelves. Altar decor, and a gift for women whose taste ran gothic long before the season made it convenient.

Some match holders hide the matches. This one makes a feature of them.

It is a black witch hat rendered in glossy glazed ceramic, three inches tall and three inches across the brim. About fifty standard 2.25 inch kitchen matches sit under the cone and fan out across the brim, heads up and ready to grab, so the thing you reach for every evening looks deliberate instead of like a battered matchbox living in a drawer. Matches are not included; this is the vessel, and it refills from any box of standard kitchen matches.

Turn it over and the underside carries a round striking pad, recessed into a ring of unglazed ceramic. That is what makes it a ceramic match holder with striker rather than a jar that only stores things: the match striker travels with the matches, so there is never a hunt for the one side of a matchbox that still works. The pad is replaceable when it eventually wears out, which is why the holder outlasts the striking surface instead of being thrown away with it. As a matchstick holder, a matches holder and a decorative match holder, it does the same job three ways, and it does it without a separate striking block cluttering the counter.

On size, the number rather than an adjective: three inches tall, three inches across. The most common disappointment in this category is a piece that arrives larger than the photographs suggested and takes over a surface it was meant to sit quietly on. This one is small. It fits the back of a bathroom counter, a bedside table, a kitchen windowsill, a mantel or an altar, and it is still heavy enough to stay put when you strike a match against its base.

The reason it stays out is that nothing about it is seasonal except the association. There is no orange, no printed face and no seasonal lettering, so a plain glazed cone reads as witchy home decor and gothic home decor in March exactly as easily as it reads as spooky home decor in October. As black decor and black home decor it sits against pale walls, wood and stone without fighting them; as black kitchen decor and gothic kitchen decor it earns a place next to the hob rather than being packed away with the pumpkins. Most Halloween kitchen decor gets a fortnight a year. This does not. As ceramic kitchen decor it is simply a small black object that happens to hold matches.

In season it covers the ground you would expect it to. Halloween home decor, halloween witch decor, gothic halloween decor, black halloween decor, witchy halloween decor and ceramic halloween decor all describe the same object honestly, because a black glazed witch hat is simply what it is. Out of season the same object is witch decor, witchy decor, gothic decor, ceramic decor and witch hat decor, and nothing on it needs to change for that to be true.

Where it tends to end up: a kitchen shelf, where witchy kitchen decor and kitchen witch decor stop being a joke and start being useful next to a gas hob that will not catch. A bathroom counter, beside the candles. A bedside table. A mantel above a fireplace, which is where a ceramic holder like this gets used hardest on cold evenings. An altar, where altar decor is expected to be plain, black and functional rather than decorative for its own sake. It suits apothecary, cottagecore, dark academia decor and practical magic shelves, and it suits a plain modern kitchen just as well, where most of the time nobody mentions the witch at all.

As a gift it needs no explaining, because the shape does that on its own. A witch gift or a witchy gift for someone who already owns the candles and the tarot deck; a gothic gift for someone whose taste ran that way long before the season made it convenient; a home decor gift for a housewarming, where a small black ceramic object is easier to give than something that has to match a room you have not seen. A gothic witch hat in glazed ceramic is a more considered object than its price suggests, and it arrives ready to hand over.

What it is not, so nobody is disappointed. It is not a candle holder: the cone covers the matches and the brim catches them, and nothing about it is shaped to take a candle. It is not a costume piece and it is not wearable. It does not come with matches. It is not a rack or a stand for storing hats. It is one small ceramic object that keeps fifty matches tidy, lights them on its own base, and looks like something you chose rather than something you settled for.
