WWII USMC P-44 Frogskin Camo HBT Reversible Trousers Pants Marine Corps Altered: $1350.00
Reversible USMC frogskin camouflage utility trousers, believed to be Pattern 1944 (P-44). The jungle side is green and the beach side is brown. Believed original WWII-era, acquired in the 1950s from a Marine. Please review all photos and the video before purchasing. Measurements (flat, approximate):waist 15" (about 30" around), rise 12.5", inseam 27.5", length 39", thigh 12" to 13" per leg, hip 22" (measured 1" above the crotch). Leg openings are 8 1/2" (wearer’s right) and 9" (wearer’s left). Extra rear fabric and the alterations mean measurements vary with how the pants are laid. Features:both camo sides intact, 5 brass waistband grommets, 6 belt loops per side, button fly, and 4 snaps on each side-entry pocket opening that appear original and matching, some with rust. Alterations: - Only 2 of the 5 fly buttons are original USMC (stamped U.S. MARINE CORPS). The other 3 and both cargo pocket buttons are replacements.
- The rear sections of the large side-entry seat pockets were cut away, leaving frayed edges. The fabric appears to have been reused for two added cargo pockets on the legs, about 8" x 6.5" each. This would explain the fading differences between the seat and legs.
- Both side-entry pockets are sound at the front opening. Because the rear was cut away, a hand moved across the pocket comes out the back, on the inside of the pants. See video.
- The waist appears altered at the back, with a frayed waistband edge. The pocket openings sit slightly set back on the hip.
- A faint ink mark near the crotch on the beach side appears to read 34, likely the original size.
- The cuffs have about 1/2" of fabric turned under on the jungle side. It is unknown whether the hems are original.
Repairs and condition (wearer’s perspective): - Right leg:
- Jungle side: crisscross stitching on the front of the thigh, and a sewn 5 1/2" x 5" patch at the knee with ink writing that appears to read “ROET” (partly cut off). A zigzag repair runs down the back to the cuff, and zigzag stitching shows on the upper thigh near the crotch.
- Beach side: a large rip at the knee, covered by the patch on the jungle side. Crisscross stitching on the upper thigh at the edge of the hip pocket. About 6" of stitching missing at the bottom of the hip pocket, which can be felt but not seen. A repair about 3" long along a vertical seam toward the cuff, the same mend as the jungle-side zigzag, which likely accounts for the narrower opening. On the back, a small green zigzag-stitched patch at the upper thigh near the crotch, plus a rust mark and blue ink.
- Left leg:
- Jungle side: a zigzag stitch near the knee showing the outline of a patch sewn on the beach side. Red splotches are most visible from the knee down. Nothing major on the back.
- Beach side: a 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" patch with zigzag stitching in the center, and red spotting running down from it. About 2" of stitching missing at the top of the hip pocket, which can be felt but not seen.
- Pinkish-red spots of unknown origin, mostly on the left leg and visible on both sides.
- Overall fading and staining, yellowish staining below the right knee, and loose threads at some seams.
Markings:handwritten “9338” on the beach side near the fly, meaning unknown. No tag or stamp inside the waistband. Ships via USPS Priority Mail, fully insured. Signature confirmation required on delivery. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like additional photos — happy to help!
