Up for sale is an incredibly rare, original World War II cruise book documenting the historic deployment of the U.S. Navy\'s 62nd Naval Construction Battalion (Seabees). This unit yearbook was printed in a strictly limited run exclusively for the veterans who served in the battalion and their immediate families, making physical copies highly sought after today.
The 62nd Seabees played vital construction and combat engineering roles across the Pacific Theater, including major infrastructure overhauls at Pearl Harbor, operational builds on Maui, and critical airfield construction under intense fire during the assault on Iwo Jima.
This comprehensive volume is packed with hundreds of vintage photographs, candid unit snapshots, operational histories, text features, and a complete roster of personnel.
Condition:The original olive-green hardcover sows minor surface and corner wear consistent with a book of this age. The red embossed cover graphics remain distinct. Top outside corner of book has been bumped.Internal pages show light soiling, finger dents and expected vintage age toning, and light foxing to some pages and to closed page edges, typical of wartime paper production. Two pages in the front show ink & paper abrasions from opposite page, apparently stuck together at some point.Veteran Markings: This copy features authentic pencil checkmarks next to select names on the roster pages and a penciled in note/address, placed by the original veteran owner to mark friends and comrades. The check marks transferred through onto the last page from a dark illustration page acting like carbon paper. Last roster pages have very light foxing/surface abrasions.Overall, binding is solid with front fly leaf and first page showing minor separation. This is a phenomenal, authentic piece of WWII Pacific Theater history—perfect for militaria collectors, naval historians, or descendants looking to connect with a family member\'s service history.
