Offered here is an original WWII U.S. Navy named paper grouping belonging to George W. Gibson.
Included in this lot:
1. United States Navy “Liberty Card” stamped COMBAT ZONE
2. Western Union telegram dated January 19, 1945
The Liberty Card is issued in the name of George W. Gibson, date of birth 4/23/26, and bears his signature and both left and right forefinger fingerprints. It is signed by the Executive Officer of Ship and prominently stamped “COMBAT ZONE.” The printed code at the bottom reads NOB-SP-11-5-45-79M. The card shows honest period wear, fold lines, rounding at corners, staining, and a reinforced hole as issued for lanyard attachment. It is not laminated and appears fully original.
The Western Union telegram is dated January 19, 1945 and reads: “Arrived safely going to ship all my love to Renee and Jackie.” It is addressed to Mrs. George W. Gibson, 507 Oak Street, San Francisco, California. The wartime tone and timing align with naval deployment movement.
Together these pieces form a small but personal WWII Navy grouping from a young sailor born in 1926 who would have been 18–19 years old at the time of service. The Combat Zone designation adds strong historical interest.
Condition: Both items show typical wartime fold wear and age toning. No major tears observed. Please review photos carefully for exact condition.
