WWII US Army Soldiers France Normandy June 25 1944 Informal Snapshot Photograph:
$10.49

Photograph, black-and-white silver gelatin print with scalloped deckled edges, originally titled “WWII US Army Snapshot St Andre de lEure France June 1944 Photo CWO Pavlik 7446.” The image depicts five American service members on the concrete step of a stone-clad building in Saint-André-de-l’Eure, France. The snapshot is dated June 25, 1944, less than three weeks after the D-Day landings and during the Normandy campaign. Four men wear light-colored shirts, dark ties, and trousers of the U.S. Army summer service uniform. A woman in a pale mid-length dress stands among them; her presence may indicate a brief respite or a local acquaintance.A small numeral “6” appears on the wall to the left of the entrance. The number “7446” is visible above the doorframe and likely identifies a building or unit address. Mounted to the right is a nameplate reading “CWO S.C. PAVLIK,” indicating a Chief Warrant Officer assigned to this location. On the reverse of the print, faint pencil inscriptions identify “Cpl Gerald Harmon,” “Sgt Paul Rinehart,” “Pfc Don Dellinger,” and the nickname “Babe,” along with the date and location reference “St Andre de la,” almost certainly Saint-André-de-l’Eure. A stamped “75” from the photo processor is also present. The print shows age-related fading and softening of fine detail, but the uniform, architecture, and inscriptions remain legible. The composition is informal and slightly off-center, with the group arranged naturally on the step and relaxed, unsmiling expressions. The stone wall and simple doorway establish the setting. The handwritten names and precise date identify the photograph as a documented record of soldiers in the weeks following the invasion. The image functions as both a personal memento and a record of a pause during the Allied advance through northern France.
