WWII Imperial Japanese Navy 1936 Fleet Maneuvers Silver Cufflinks Boxed For Sale

DescriptionA beautiful pair of vintage Imperial Japanese Navy commemorative cufflinks, dating to 1936, complete with their original-style wooden presentation box. These cufflinks commemorate a major naval exercise held by the Imperial Japanese Navy in 1936, just one year before the outbreak of full-scale war between Japan and China. What makes this pair especially interesting is the lettering preserved on the cufflinks themselves. The shell-shaped fastening bars are inscribed “1936,” while the reverse of each cufflink reads “Commemoration of the Naval Grand Maneuvers.”The wooden box also bears a gold inscription commemorating the Imperial Japanese Navy’s Special Grand Maneuvers of 1936.The front features an elegant radiating design reminiscent of the rising sun, accented with gold-colored cherry blossoms. Even the fastening bars have been designed to resemble artillery shells.Naval maneuvers were large-scale training exercises involving warships, aircraft, and coordinated fleet operations. These cufflinks offer a fascinating glimpse into the ceremonial and personal side of Japan’s prewar navy.Who originally received them? On what occasions were they worn?Their original owner remains unknown, but the inscriptions connect these small personal accessories to a specific moment in Japanese naval history. The matching pair and inscribed wooden box make this a particularly appealing collectible for naval historians, militaria collectors, and anyone interested in the lesser-known stories of prewar Japan.Condition: Age-related tarnishing, surface wear, and discoloration are present.
