Original WWII German Luftwaffe Flak NCO portrait painting dating to 1942-1943.
This period oil painting on canvas depicts a young German Luftwaffe serviceman wearing a blue-gray uniform with red collar tabs associated with the Luftwaffe Flak (anti-aircraft artillery) branch. The painted collar insignia appears consistent with the rank of Feldwebel, a Luftwaffe noncommissioned officer.
The portrait remains mounted on its original wooden stretcher and measures approximately 20.5 x 14.5 inches.
The reverse retains handwritten period markings including “1942-1943,” “520-13,” and an apparent original price notation of “20.50.” The meaning of the “520-13” notation is unknown. The reverse also shows the aged canvas, wooden stretcher and original-style fasteners, providing excellent visual evidence of the painting’s period construction.
No artist signature or identification of the sitter has been found.
Condition is original and unrestored with age-related surface wear, scattered paint loss and flaking, abrasions and edge wear consistent with its age. The canvas remains mounted to the stretcher. Please review all photographs carefully for condition and construction details.
A striking original WWII-era military portrait with identifiable Luftwaffe Flak uniform details, a 1942-1943 date, and surviving period markings on the reverse.
