The Foley Manufacturing Company

During World War II, the Foley Manufacturing Company of Minneapolis, founded in 1926, shifted its production lines during the Second World War from their immensely popular line of household kitchen utensils -- such as their proprietary \"Foley Food Mill\" and choppers -- to vital military materiel, manufacturing a voluminous number of Meat Cans (i.e. \"Mess Kits \"\"), Canteen Cups and other components to support the Allied war effort, including canvas Canteen Covers.Wartime Operations

• Transition: Factory output pivoted away from civilian housewares due to wartime metal rationing and defense contracts.
• Products: Produced military mess gear, metal cups, and field necessities for troops.

Pre- and Post-War Context

• Founding: Started in 1926 by Walter M. Ringer, initially focusing on saw-maintenance equipment before expanding into kitchen metalware.
• Housewares: Famously known for the Foley Food Mill introduced in 1934, which remained a staple for home food conservation and canning during rationing periods.
• Postwar Era: Swiftly returned to manufacturing kitchen gadgets and introduced new innovations like the one-handed flour sifter.
