Original WWII-era China-Burma-India Theater embroidered souvenir textile, dated 1944.
This substantial approximately 18 x 17 inch textile was almost certainly produced as a decorative souvenir pillow front / pillow-cover panel for an American serviceman in the China-Burma-India Theater.
The deep blue textile is extensively decorated with metallic bullion-style embroidery and couching. The central design features a shield incorporating the Allied CBI imagery, flanked by American flags, with the embroidered inscriptions:

INDIA

The surrounding field is densely worked with looping metallic embroidery, with additional decorative bullion motifs and metallic edging around the perimeter.
The reverse remains visible and shows the handwork, stitching and construction of the embroidery.
Pieces of this type were produced locally in the CBI Theater—particularly in India—as souvenirs for Allied servicemen during World War II.

Condition:
Original wartime textile showing age and use. There are loose and pulled embroidery threads, scattered losses to the metallic work, edge/fringe wear and fraying, creasing, minor discoloration and other age-related textile wear. The reverse shows exposed stitching and thread work consistent with its construction. No attempt has been made to restore or alter the piece. Please examine all detailed photographs carefully for exact condition.
