WWI Imperial German Austro-Hungarian Ersatz Canvas Leather Holster P08 Luger Mauser Steyr

Historical Context & Materials:

Up for sale is an exceptional, authentic museum-grade artifact from the First World War era (circa 1916–1918). As material shortages impacted Central Powers manufacturing later in the war, factories utilized "Ersatz" (substitute material) techniques. This holster features a heavy-weave olive/field-grey military canvas body reinforced with dark-textured leather edging, a heavy leather muzzle boot, and a robust hand-stitched bottom plug.

Hardware & Reverse Configuration:

  • The Attachment Rig: The reverse side features the iconic combat suspension layout, consisting of dual metal D-ring attachment tabs alongside two vertical leather belt loops. This system allowed officers, specialized crews, or cavalry forces to wear the holster directly on their combat belts or hook it into equipment yokes/shoulder straps.

  • Authentic Patina: The iron closure buckle retains its original late-war black enamel finish, displaying honest flaking and a natural iron oxide patina that completely verifies its age.

Internal Layout & Fitment:

The interior of this holster is completely streamlined and clean, intentionally manufactured without bulky external tool pouches or integrated magazine sleeves. Its unique, contoured geometry features a sharp trigger guard drop and a long, narrow barrel guide. It is an ideal piece for collectors specializing in classic WWI military sidearms, beautifully complementing firearms like the Roth-Steyr M1907, Frommer Stop, Steyr-Hahn M1912, or specialized variants of the Mauser pocket series.

Condition Report:

A phenomenal "drawer survivor" piece. The structural stitching is tight and complete. The organic linen/hemp thread securing the muzzle plug shows correct fiber separation and natural aging. The canvas maintains deep, stable color without heavy staining or rot. Completely unmarked and raw—exactly as issued by wartime emergency contractors.

Sold strictly as a historical collectible. Please review all detailed macro photos to confirm its exceptional physical preservation.
