Original 1916 German WWI Eisenbahn-Töchterhort Donation Pin / Badge
Up for sale is an authentic, original 1916 German home front donation medal configured as a wearable pin. This historic piece was minted by the prominent Lauer firm in Nuremberg to raise funds for the Christianenheim (Christian home) of the Eisenbahn-Töchterhort (Railway Daughters' Asylum Foundation) in Cologne, which supported the orphaned children of deceased Prussian railway workers during the First World War.
Historical Inscription & Significance:
Unlike the earlier 1914 version which featured a portrait of rail official Paul von Breitenbach, this October 1916 war-era variant features a patriotic and motivational quote from Kaiser Wilhelm II inside a central square frame on the reverse.
The Gothic Fraktur text reads:
"Grosses erleben macht ehrfürchtig und im Herzen fest"
(Experiencing greatness makes one reverent and firm in the heart)

The obverse of the piece features a beautifully detailed allegorical running male figure holding a torch and a sword while running over a winged railway wheel.
Material & Construction:
In accordance with German wartime metal shortages and the patriotic transition away from precious metals, this badge is struck in silver-plated iron (Eisen versilbert). It features its original, robust, factory-soldered reverse needle pin and catch assembly, which remains fully intact and functional.
