Typed Letter Signed: "Wm. H. Sutphin" 1p, 8½x11. December 5, 1939. Written on official Congressional letterhead. Addressed to "Mr. Joseph P. Kelley/ Washington, D.C.". "Dear Joe" In full: "This will acknowledge receipt of the cordial invitation to attend the New Jersey State Society\'s Christmas Party and Dance to be held at the Wardman Park Hotel on December 16. I exceedingly regret that it will be impossible for Mrs. Sutphin and I to attend, but I want you to know that we are thinking about you and want to extend to you to the members of the New Jersey State Society the Season\'s Greetings. With kind regards, I am Sincerely yours". William Halstead Sutphin (1887-1972) was a Democratic congressman who represented New Jersey\'s 3rd district for over a decade (1931-1943). Before his time in the U.S. House, he served in the Army and was stationed at the U.S.-Mexico border. During the First World War, Sutphin was sent overseas and functioned as a captain in the Air Service. Following his tenure in public office, he was named vice president of the M.J. Shipping - We ship via FedEx and USPS. Shipping charges are calculated at time of payment and are dependent on the number of items purchased and the destination shipping address. Due to the value of most purchases, a signature is required for delivery. This policy limits our ability to ship to PO Boxes. All international shipments (destinations outside the U.S) will be sent via FedEx. Please feel free to contact us in advance for shipping charges - international customers are encouraged to do so.
