W. T. COPELANDCHAMBER POT
Circa1867-90 (per logo)
What a wonderful item this is and I am very proud to offer this up for sale. It comes from an estate out of Ohio and has been in their family since it was bought new. If there was a lid to this, it has long been lost but I am not sure it ever had one. I couldn\'t find any information on this other than locating a logo which IDed this as being made between the year 1867 and 1890.
The item is a Brown transferware but I do believe that part of it was hand painted to match the decoration. Look at the handle for instance as I don\'t believe that would have been transfer but actually hand painted to blend in with the rest of the design.
This is a very large piece measuring about 9 inches across the top. Add on the measurement of the handle and it is 10-3/4 inches wide. The height is a little less than 5-1/2 inches. The items is in very good condition with slight glazing in a small area up above the V shaped building close to the handle area. I am not even sure that it is glazing as I would know of it but it is a rough area and might have been how it was actually made more than the glazing...but I don\'t know for sure. Over all however very good condition considering it\'s age. Note also the bottom which I believe is paint from the factory on the edging. It may clean up but we won\'t try...and then again if it is paint from the factory it might not clean up.
Note the design around the top edging of this piece. I love how and what all they did to bring out the best of this. I have not seen this type of design on many other pieces but have seen it on occasion. And, the painted handle itself. I am pretty sure that is hand painted and not a stencil transfer. There is some paint wear on this area esp. the line going up and down that you can see paint missing in the picture I supplied.
