The early carving style on this Australian primitive boomerang suggests that it was made around 1950. It's in the traditional style, similar to bark paintings, and has a textured background. The incised lines of the background and the outlines of the animals have a white pigment rubbed in.Some of the oldest rock art in the world depicts boomerangs being thrown at animals . They could travel very fast and were effective and dangerous when used for hunting or as weapons.The boomerang offered here is from an estate collection of Australian aboriginal implements.
