Authentic Vintage 1996 Russian Matryoshka Nesting Dolls – 10-Piece Set
Hand-Painted & Artist Signed – From the Historic Toy Center of Sergiev Posad
A stunning, highly detailed 10-piece set of authentic Russian Matryoshka nesting dolls. This is a true collector's item, hand-painted in 1996 during the highly sought-after post-Soviet era of independent artisan craftsmanship.
The bottom of the largest doll is fully signed and documented by the artist:
• Location: г. Сергиев Посад (Sergiev Posad) – the world-famous historic capital of Russian doll-making.
• Year: 1996
• Artist Signature: Сайфулина (Saifulina)
This masterpiece features a deep, midnight-blue background heavily adorned with intricate gold-gilded flourishes and scrolls. Each of the larger dolls displays a beautifully rendered, multi-character scene depicting traditional Russian fairy tales and folklore. The faces are exceptionally fine and expressive, a hallmark of master painter Saifulina's work. The set graduates down to a microscopic tenth doll, showcasing the incredible precision required to turn and paint the wood at this scale.
The largest doll measures 7” tall.
The set is in good condition. There is minor vintage paint wear along the seam of the largest doll, and the second-largest doll has a looser fit than the rest when joined together.
