Vtg S.S. YALE Stateroom Key & Leather Fob 92 Los Angeles Steamship Co Wilmington:
$120.00

Listing Description

Up for sale/sale is a highly collectible, authentic vintage stateroom key and matching leather fob from the legendary coastal passenger steamship S.S. Yale, operated by the Los Angeles Steamship Company (LASSCO).

This outstanding piece of West Coast maritime history features a teardrop-shaped leather fob stamped with room number "92" and the company's home port of Wilmington, California. Accompanying the fob is the original, matching brass skeleton key. Finding the original key and leather fob intact as a matched pair is incredibly uncommon, as these fobs rarely survived decades of storage without rotting or separating from their keys.

ITEM DETAILS:

• Vessel: S.S. Yale

• Operator: Los Angeles Steamship Company (LASSCO)

• Port: Wilmington, California

• Room Number: 92

• Includes: (1) Stamped Stitched Leather Fob, (1) Brass Skeleton Key, (1) Connecting Ring

HISTORICAL CONTEXT:

Built in 1906, the S.S. Yale (along with her famous sister ship, the S.S. Harvard) was an iconic luxury coastal liner known for high-speed, overnight express runs between San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego. During the 1920s and 1930s, LASSCO operated these vessels out of Wilmington, providing travelers with an elegant alternative to train travel. This key dates directly to that golden era of California coastal cruising before the service ceased in the vintage condition given its age. The stitched leather fob remains entirely intact, structurally sound, and completely legible with crisp stamping. The brass skeleton key shows a beautiful, authentic aged patina with no structural damage. Please review all high-resolution photos carefully to judge the exact cosmetic condition for yourself.
