Vtg HAND PAINTED Chinese Porcelain FAMILLE ROSE Vase/Lamp Base ABELS WASSERBERG:
$212.97

Vintage HAND PAINTED Chinese Porcelain FAMILLE ROSE Vase/Lamp Base ABELS WASSERBERG & CO

Size 14\" tall, opening at top is 4\", round base is 4 1/8\" diameter with a .5\" diameter hole in the center for potential lamp wiring.

Very fine Chinese porcelain jar vase with a glossy white glaze and MAGNIFICENT hand painted, raised enamel details.

This lamp base was hand painted in the Studio of Abels Wasserberg and Co, of Park Avenue NYC in the 1940s or 1950s. Their showroom featured some of the most high-end porcelain and glass pieces available to purchase at the time.

This vase features a wonderful \'ALTAR OF PLENTY\' or a Blessings Altar, complete with gorgeous vases and boxes filled with flowers, fruits, bamboo, and other offerings, including a small painted Temple Bell. It is stunning from all sides.

The painting is lavish, lush, and with incredibly minute detailing. Colors are rich and jewel toned, enamel is smooth/raised

At the very top and base of the vase is a Famille Jaune [yellow] enameled border pattern of curling leaves and flowers.

The detailing is fabulous and extremely realistic- a true Artisan painted this. Flowers look accurate and delicate.

Excellent condition other than 3 incredibly tiny flakes off of the yellow enamel down at the vase\'s base. They are so small, and amongst variegated coloration, that they are almost impossible to see- please see last photo and use zoom. Incredibly minor. Vase itself is not scratched, chipped, or damaged in any way. No cracks or crazing, no fading to design- flawless.

A fabulous piece for a collector or someone that appreciates classic Chinese porcelain - this is a beautiful vase/lamp base.

These are getting harder and harder to find, especially in suchgreat shape.

Inside of this vase is a small burlap bag from Abels & Wasserberg which most likely held lead beads to weight the piece if it was used as a lamp base.

There is a red painted Chinese symbol on the underside where the hole is drilled

About Abels & Wasserberg:

Abels, Wasserberg & Company purchased \"blanks\"from various factories [often Chinese export pieces], then decorated the pieceswith designs of flowers, fruit, or landscapes. Abels, Wasserberg, & Companywas in business more than 40 years. With its headquarters at 63 Green Street inNew York City, and additional show rooms in Chicago and Los Angeles. In 1943,Walter J. Abels, company president, was quoted in China and Glass that his firm\"quickly adapted to the products of domestic china and glass factories anddeveloped a decorating shop which is today capable of producing commercial handdecorations which are at least the equal of any foreign product.\" With thedrain on labor and supplies for the war effort, this was a very difficult task.Abels, Wasserberg & Company was extremely diversified in its production. InDecember 1943, they advised a potential distributor that they had more than 375styles of table and boudoir lamps, an assortment suitable for every type ofinterior decoration. In addition, a large line of gift accessories wasavailable: \"All are beautifully decorated by hand and are equal to thefinest pieces that used to be obtained in Europe.\" An article in The Giftand Art Buyer (December 1945) advises that Abel, Wasserberg occupied a 10,000square foot facility in New York, employing 55 persons solely engaged in handdecorating. Many of these artisans, (both men and women) had acquired theirexpertise at famous European establishments. Even those with considerableexperience, however, were given 18 months of supervised training before theywere allowed to be \"practicing\" artists. Although a large quantitywas produced, it\'s difficult to find Abels & Wasserberg-decorated pieces attoday\'s antique shows and sales. One could surmise that the beauty of thesepieces encompasses all ages, and that the lamps, vases, and other items arepassed down from one generation to another.
