Up for sale is a fantastic piece of mid-century British ceramic history: an authentic vintage Arthur Wood pottery beer tankard. This unique piece features a high-relief embossed depiction of an Anglo-Saxon warrior brandishing a sword, labeled "Saxon Soldier". The reverse side showcases a detailed Norman teardrop shield inscribed with "Circa 1066," commemorating the Battle of Hastings.The bottom bears the incised style mold number "909" alongside a hand-stamped "Quality Arthur Wood, England" backstamp rotated 90 degrees. This specific application style dates the piece directly to the company's mid-century production era, when they expanded into popular giftware and hollowware. It is finished in a striking, glossy olive-green glaze that highlights the intricate, textured details beautifully.Dated sometime after 1950, possibly 1960's.
