Up for sale is an authentic, early-production vintage 1972 Case XX Buffalo Clasp Knife (Pattern P172), proudly made in the USA. This classic folding knife features beautiful curved pakkawood handles, solid brass liners, and nickel silver bolsters. The tang stamp clearly reveals the coveted 8-dot configuration underneath the "HAND MADE USA" text, precisely dating this piece to 1972. The pakkawood scales are in excellent structural condition, free of any cracks or chips, and the brass liners remain tight and clean. The blade retains a strong snap with no wobble, making this an incredibly robust, structurally sound pocket knife that is ready for a display or immediate everyday carry.
Please note that this knife is being sold as a standalone item without its original presentation box. As shown in the detailed photos, the clip-point blade displays a heavy, honest vintage patina, showing grey spotting, surface scratches, and faint pitting consistent with age and carry. The factory mirror polish has faded over time, and the iconic buffalo blade etch is faint but still visible. The bolsters also show light surface pocket scuffs but could easily be polished if desired. We choose to leave vintage knives in their original, uncleaned condition to preserve their historical integrity.
Please review all high-resolution images closely to evaluate the cosmetic condition for yourself. This is a fantastic, honest piece of American cutlery history.
