For over 130 years, the Lancaster Corps Band has served as the musical and spiritual voice of the Lancaster community, developing a lineage of local and regional ministry. The Salvation Army officially launched its work in Lancaster in 1891. Following the traditional template established by the global movement\'s founders, the early Lancaster Salvationists immediately adopted the use of brass instruments. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the Lancaster band was primarily an evangelistic outdoor tool. Musicians would march through the streets of Lancaster and set up open-air meetings at busy city intersections. The loud brass music served a dual purpose: attracting crowds to hear the Gospel message and drowning out the noise of rowdy or hostile hecklers.
