An unframed pictorial marquetry panel depicts a narrow architectural courtyard with contrasting wood veneers, a prominent chimney, windows, and steps.
The composition uses the natural variations of light and dark woods to describe brickwork, tiled roofing, doorways, timber beams, and irregular paving. A narrow integral wooden border surrounds the scene, rather than a separate picture frame. An inscription-like mark appears near the lower right of the image, with additional faint pencil markings on the reverse, but the artist and location represented remain unidentified. Marquetry and intarsia pictures of architectural subjects were popular decorative crafts in the twentieth century, often sold as souvenir and domestic wall art. This example has an unusually detailed street setting.
