Vintage solid copper bookends in the form of stylized Easter Island (Moai) heads, produced from copper sourced and smelted at the White Pine Mine in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. These pieces are documented in the reference book White Pine Copper by Bruce K Cox and date to the early 1960s.
Each bookend is individually hand-poured in solid copper. They measure approximately 5.5 inches tall, 2 inches wide, and 2.5 inches deep, with each piece weighing about 3 lbs 12 oz.
The sculptural form captures the iconic Moai profile with a clean, mid-century aesthetic. The surface retains original finish with areas of paint and natural patina developed over time.
