The colorful masthead shows an eighteenth-century courting couple alongside Cupid, with “VALENTINE GREETING by WESTERN UNION” across the top and “CREATED BY NORMAN ROCKWELL” printed at the lower right. Western Union used specially illustrated telegram forms for holidays and social messages, and Valentine greetings were part of that broader tradition.
Even better, this one was actually sent rather than surviving as an unused form. The typed message is addressed to Mrs. R. Marchant, 1810 Berkeley St. and ends:
“I want you for my Valentine — Daddy.”
The longer verse jokes affectionately about aging and romance, giving the piece considerably more personality than a blank collector example. It feels less like generic ephemera and more like a tiny preserved family story.
