Western Cutlery (originally Western States Cutlery) wasfounded in Boulder, Colorado, in 1911 by H.N. Platts.The company produced practical knives for ranchers, hunters, andoutdoorsmen and later relocated to Longmont. These represent thequality USA-made era pocket knives and fixed blades collectors seek.

#1. Western S-H48B Fixed-Blade Bird & Trout / SmallHunter
- Blade stamped “WESTERN STAINLESS STEELU.S.A.” Brass guard stamped “S-H48B.”
- Approx.: 3¼–3½\" stainless steelclip-point blade, ~7–7¼\" overall length.
- Imitation stag (Staglon/horn-patternDelrin) handle with brass spacers and pins, brass finger guard, aluminumpommel.
- Original brown leather Western sheath withembossed leaf/floral design, rivets, and snap strap (shows normal age wear,darkening, and some surface marks but remains solid and functional).
- Condition:
Used. Blade has scratches, light sharpeningwear, and some surface marks but remains straight with a good point. Handle istight with no looseness. Pommel has minor dings/hammer marks typical of these.A classic compact field knife.
#2. Western 442Two-Blade Pen/Jack Knife
- Tang stamped “WESTERN BOULDER COLO. U.S.A.”and “442” on the blade.
- Closed length ~2⅞\". Nickel-silver bolstersand oval shield. Jigged bone/stag-style handles (lighter color). Carbon steelblades (slim clip master + pen blade).
Condition:
- Used with normal pocket wear, some bladesharpening marks/wear, and minor bolster scratches. Handles show NOmajorcracks. Good snap on blades. Classic small Western folder from the Boulder era.
#3. Western 445 Three-Blade Stockman
- Tang stamped “WESTERN U.S.A.” and “445” on ablade.
- Closed length ~3\". Darker jiggedDelrin/stag-style handles, nickel-silver bolsters and oval shield. Carbon steelblades (typical stockman configuration: clip, sheepfoot/pen, and third blade).
- Condition
Used with expected wear, some bladepatina/scratches from use and sharpening, and handle wear. Blades open andclose; no major structural issues visible. Compact everyday stockman pattern.
OVERALL:
Anice matched set of classic Western patterns—one fixed-blade field knife withoriginal sheath plus two complementary small folders. Great for a Westerncollector, or someone wanting authentic American vintage cutlery
All three are honest used examples with normal signs of age,carry, and sharpening. No major damage, cracks, or repairs noted from thephotos. Blades retain usable edges and geometry.
