The dramatic illustration depicts a hunter confronting a large black bear along a rocky lakeshore, with a canoe, mountains and forest in the background. The lower portion is boldly marked WESTERN and includes period text describing the encounter between the hunter and bear.
Unlike many surviving merchant tablets that were heavily used, the remaining lined interior pages of this example are clean and unused with no handwriting. Some pages have been removed from the tablet over the years, however.
The colorful cover has wonderful display appeal and would also make an unusual piece of framed cabin, lodge, hunting or outdoor décor.

Condition
Very good vintage condition overall. The illustrated front cover remains especially attractive, with strong, vibrant color and only minor edge, corner and surface wear consistent with age.
The remaining interior lined pages are clean and unused with no handwriting or account entries. Please note that some pages have been torn/removed from the tablet, with evidence of removal visible near the binding.
The back cover shows minor age-related wear and a small handwritten price notation near the upper corner.
Please review all photographs carefully for condition and completeness.
