This is a vintage West German relief beer stein with a domed metal lid and the old German toast "Bier Lieb u. Lied macht nie lebensmüd".
The hand-coloured relief shows Alpine men at a table with their tankards, a chalet and mountains under a deep cobalt band, and it makes a handsome shelf piece.

- Glaze: fine crazing on the scroll bands

Markings
Stamped WESTERN GERMANY in blue on the base, a mark used on West German exports between 1949 and 1990, with an impressed triangle mark beside it (photos 6-7). The scrolls read "Bier Lieb u. Lied" and "macht nie lebensmüd": beer, love and song never make you weary of life.
