• Naval History: An authentic vintage United States Navy commissioning pennant. These distinctive long, narrow flags were historically hoisted at the mainmast of a vessel on the day it was commissioned and remained flying throughout its active service.
• Ship Provenance: This unique pennant carries the hand-embroidered names of two WWII-era ships: the USS Sapphire (PYc-2), a converted yacht utilized as a coastal patrol boat, and the PC-478, a submarine chaser. It was highly likely customized as a keepsake by a proud sailor who served on both vessels during the war.
• Design Details: Features the traditional seven white stars on a blue field at the hoist, transitioning into a long red and white stripe. The hoist end retains an intact original metal hanging grommet.
• Authentic Character: This piece shows heavy, genuine wear indicative of its age and time in the elements.
