This vintage homefront labor badge was issued jointly by the United Automobile Workers (UAW) and the Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO) during World War II. The silver-toned front design features an hourglass emblem in the center flanked by large outspread wings. Dark blue enamel recesses highlight the prominent patriotic labor slogans "WORKING / GIVING," "SOLDIERS OF PRODUCTION," and "SPEEDING THAT DATE WITH VICTORY."
The reverse side reveals a heavily textured metal back stamped with the maker's mark "GREENDUCK CO. CHI." alongside a circular union bug and an official manufacturer's shield hallmark. A horizontal, standard steel pin-back mechanism with an open C-clasp hinge is attached securely to the upper section. The item measures approximately 3/4 of an inch in width along its lower banner. It shows authentic signs of age, including significant surface tarnish, fine pitting on the reverse plating, and minor paint thinning consistent with a historical war-era artifact.
