Vintage Unmarked No. 8 Dutch Oven Cast iron pan W/ lid (wagner, Griswold?):
$94.00

A solid, heavy vintage cast iron Dutch oven with its lid and wire bail handle, ready for a new kitchen. Great for braises, stews, chili, pot roast, no-knead bread and slow cooking, and it works in the oven, on the stovetop, or over a campfire.THE BASICS
- Size: #8, stamped \"5 QT.\" on the bottom (about 5 quarts)
- Weight: 11 lb 8 oz, pot and lid together (11 lb 7.9 oz on my scale)
- Measurements: inside diameter [__]\", inside depth [__]\", width including ears [__]\"
- Includes: pot, lid, wire bail handleWHAT IT IS (AND WHAT I CAN\'T PROMISE)
This one is unmarked, with no logo. The bottom is stamped \"5 QT.\" with a small letter \"B\", and the lid has a raised \"8\" and solid concentric rings underneath. Those details match unmarked Wagner (Sidney, Ohio) Dutch ovens sold around the late 1950s to mid-1960s, after Wagner acquired Griswold in 1959. The lid style is consistent with a lid made from a Griswold pattern. I researched this carefully, but because there is no maker\'s mark I can\'t guarantee the maker or exact year. I\'m describing what I found so you can judge for yourself.FEATURES
- Self-basting lid: the rings underneath collect steam and drip it back over the food
- Wide flanged rim that seats the lid
- Loop handle on the lid
- Cast ears with a wire bail handle for carrying
- Smooth bottom, no heat ringCONDITION (photos show everything, please look closely)
- Interior is smooth and dark, with a thin seasoning layer
- Seasoning is patchy in spots, with some bare gray areas on the lid and outside from age and use
- No cracks or chips / sits flat / lid fits snugly]
- Normal wear for its age, no major damage that I can see
- Cleaned and ready to use. I\'d suggest a fresh coat of oil or a quick re-season before first useMeasurements: about 10-1/4\" across the top, about 12\" ear to ear, about 4-3/4\" deep (please see the tape-measure photos)
