Vintage Tibetan Buddhist Gau prayer box pendant from Nepal, featuring an ornate Double Dorje (Double Vajra) design. The round silver-tone amulet is decorated with intricate filigree, a turquoise-colored center stone, four small red stones, and black accents.
The pendant has a removable fitted back, creating a small compartment traditionally used to carry prayers, sacred texts, or other meaningful objects. A decorative cylindrical bail allows it to hang from the included black silk cord.
The gau measures approximately 1.25 inches in diameter, 1.75 inches overall including the top and bottom fittings, and 3/4 inch thick. The black silk cord measures approximately 24 inches when laid flat and has knotted ends.
Made in Nepal. Acquired in 2006 or earlier. Metal composition and stone identities have not been verified.
