Magnificent, extremely rare Rapisardi embroidered tablecloth. Designed by Baroness Rapisardi and hand-crafted in Florence, Italy during the mid-20th century. A true example of textile art.
Featured are examples of late 1800s, early 1900s transportation as well as fashion. In the center medallion multiple stagecoaches packed with colorfully dressed passengers are pulled by imposing horses. At either end of the tablecloth is a family dressed in their Sunday best surrounded by trees and flowers. The women in their gorgeous dresses, shawls and bonnets. Men in their double-breasted waistcoats and top hats. Children\'s attire follows suit. Additionally, colorful hot air balloons on top and at the corners of the cloth. On the side drops of the cloth is man and child in a horse-drawn sleigh. All on white linen finished with a signature Rapisardi embroidered edge in green.
The fabric is Rapisardi semi sheer church linen. The embroidery is dense, master level punto stuoia. The dimension, color variation and density of the handwork is extraordinary. This piece is stunning.
All Rapisardi pieces are rare but a tablecloth is extraordinarily rare. Plus it\'s a 10 foot plus banquet size. Lastly, the motif is incredibly scarce. It is in very, very good condition. Fabric is strong, bright and structurally sound. No holes, stains or wear. Saw a small area of a possible faint stain. Tried to capture in photo 20. Also a small 1/2\" linen flaw. It is not a hole, not a repair. See photos 21 and 22--shown from the top and opposite side. These do not take away from the overall magnificence of this piece.
Gently hand-laundered and air dried.
Measures 66\" X123\". Shown on a 48\" X 96\" oval table.
