BUCK’S STATEMENT:
Out West, a good belt buckle was never just something that held your belt together. It carried a little personality with it — silver flashing against worn denim, cowboy boots on the floorboards, and designs that borrowed from generations of Southwestern metalwork. This vintage buckle has that unmistakable old Western presence, built around a bold openwork butterfly-like form with sweeping curves, rounded tips and the substantial look of an individually cast piece. At roughly 3½ inches wide by 2¼ inches tall, it makes a statement without needing turquoise or elaborate decoration to do it.
The reverse tells more of the story, retaining the rough, textured surface associated with the casting process while the face has been polished to a bright silver-colored finish. There are no maker’s marks, tribal attribution, sterling marks or metal-content stamps that I can find, and the metal has not been tested; therefore this piece is being sold simply as a vintage silver-tone Southwestern/sandcast-style buckle with no claim of sterling silver or Native American manufacture. It shows vintage surface wear and patina consistent with age and use. A handsome piece for the collector of old Western wear — and one of those buckles that looks like it already has a few stories behind it.
