Vintage Russian Fedoskino Lacquer Box – "The Mistress of the Copper Mountain" (1980 Moscow Olympics)
This is a beautiful, authentic vintage Russian lacquer miniature box handcrafted in the renowned village of Fedoskino. Hand-painted on papier-mâché, the lid features a stunning depiction of the Mistress of the Copper Mountain горы), a legendary character from Pavel Bazhov’s Ural fairy tales. Clad in a brilliant green and gold traditional sarafan and holding a glowing malachite box, she stands alongside a blooming stone flower.
Adding to its historical value, this box was produced as an official souvenir for the 1980 Moscow Summer Olympics, as designated by the gold script inscription on the underside.

This item is in good vintage condition with light wear consistent with age and careful storage. Please note the following specific details (highlighted in the listing photographs):
Exterior: The hand-painted miniature on the lid is exceptionally well-preserved, vibrant, and free of cracking. There are light, faint surface handling scratches on the high-gloss black lacquer finish, typical of vintage papier-mâché.
Chips/Fleabites: There is a tiny chip/flea-bite out of the black lacquer on the bottom outer edge of the box lid (approx. 1mm).
Interior Rim: There are two small areas of lacquer loss/chipping on the inner rim where the lid meets the base (one on the inner lip of the lid, one on the inner lip of the box). These are only visible when the box is open and do not affect the exterior presentation or functionality of the hinge.
Hardware: The original brass piano hinge is intact, secure, and opens smoothly.
Includes: The original vintage paper factory certificate/tag detailing the serial number and price.
