Vintage Robinson Ransbottom Blue Crown 6 Gallon Stoneware Crock Bail Handles:
$65.00

Vintage Blue Crown 6 Gallon Stoneware Crock with Wire Bail Handles - Robinson Ransbottom / Ransbottom, Roseville, OhioUp for sale is a big 6 gallon stoneware crock with the classic cobalt blue crown mark and the number 6 in the circle. This crown mark was used by the Ransbottom potteries of Roseville, Ohio (Ransbottom Brothers, later Robinson Ransbottom Pottery Co.). There is no other wording on the side. It\'s an early-to-mid 20th century factory piece. Some of these crocks date to the 1910s, but we can\'t pin down the exact year, so we\'re listing it as vintage. It has a white Bristol glaze inside and out, a rolled collar rim, and two molded lugs with the original-style wire bail handles. One handle still has its turned wooden grip. The other handle is bare wire and is missing its grip.Great as a farmhouse planter, umbrella or cane stand, kindling holder, or display piece.APPROXIMATE SIZE- Capacity: 6 gallon (marked)- Height: about 14 3/4 inches- Rim diameter: about 13 inches outside- Weight: about 28 lb (crock only)CONDITION (please look at all photos)- It rings clear when tapped. No cracks or hairlines.- There\'s a glaze skip/flake on the side below and to the right of the crown, near the handle without a grip. It\'s about 1 1/2 inches across, with a thin drip line running down from it. Bare clay shows there, and it looks like it happened in the kiln. See the photo with the quarter for scale.- The top of the rim is worn and unglazed-looking, with gray/brown grime, dark spots, and small pits. There are a couple of small rough glaze bumps/flakes on the outer edge of the rim near one handle lug.- There\'s a small chip/flake about 1/2 inch on the bottom edge (foot) on the back side.- There are scattered glaze pinholes, small pits, and raised kiln specks over the outside, which is normal for factory crocks of this era.- The inside has dark specks, light brown staining, and light scuffs from use.- Both wire bails and their strap bands have surface rust. The one wooden grip is weathered, and its end is split/cracked near where the wire goes in. The second grip is missing.- No lid. This is a used, old crock that has been put to work, and it has the honest wear you\'d expect. Please look at the photos closely. They are part of the description.SHIPPING / PICKUPThis crock is heavy. It will be double-boxed with plenty of padding and shipped by calculated ground service.
