Up for sale is a strikingly beautiful, highly expressive studio art pottery animal sculpture, beautifully stylized to resemble a goat, ibex, or desert quadruped. This piece was created using the traditional Raku firing technique. The intense kiln pull trapped rich carbon smoke within the glaze, resulting in a spectacular, high-contrast network of dark crackle veins over an ivory ceramic body.
The unglazed central horn and dark, minimalist eyes give the figure an incredible, whimsical presence that looks magnificent under natural daylight.
-This original studio piece is hand-signed on the underside belly with a beautifully incised artist logo/monogram featuring a stylized circular leaf design. The unglazed bottom of the hooves proudly shows the raw, dark carbon-shadowed clay distinct to authentic western raku pottery.
-This sculpture originally featured two horns, but one has broken off cleanly at the skull base (please view the close-up photos carefully). There is a small hollow cavity exposed at the break site.
Because the remaining horn sits perfectly centered, the figure naturally takes on a unique, mythical "unicorn" silhouette that looks stunning displayed exactly as it is. Alternatively, because the break is so clean, this piece serves as an absolute dream candidate for a Kintsugi restoration project (filling the hollow gap with gold epoxy resin to highlight its wabi-sabi history) or custom clay modification.
