Beautiful, vintage Polish folk art souvenir box dating to the mid-to late 20th century (1970s based on original owner and travel).
The lid features a highly detailed embossed metal relief depicting Historic Warsaw, showcasing the iconic Royal Castle (Zamek Krolewski) and Sigismund's Column (Kolumna Zygmunta). It is handsomely framed by an ornate embossed laurel leaf border with the banner reading "WARSZAWA".
The box features a solid wood interior construction, making a perfect box for storing jewelry, trinkets, or keepsakes.
What makes this piece exceptionally rare and desirable is the completely intact original paper production label on the bottom. The label explicitly attributes production to the famous Stanislaw Wyspianski Folk and Artist Handicraft Cooperative in Krakow, operating under the state-run Cepelia network. It still displays the original retail price and the historic communist-era SWW product catalog number.
In very good vintage condition. The wooden interior is clean, and the hinged lid opens smoothly. The metal relief displays an attractive aged patina with minimal surface wear.
