Born April 9, 1909, in York, she was the daughter of the late Edna (Sterner) and Henry Heiland, Jr. Bertie was owner of the West York Pottery until she retired and was passionate about making a difference in the skills of her students and customers. Bertie was a former member of Yorktowne Chapter of the PA Guild of Craftsmen and various York tennis clubs. She was an avid tennis player that loved both singles and doubles play and was best known as Bertie at Farquar Park and the Meadow. Bertie also loved painting in different mediums, yard sales, collecting antiques, and gardening.
