Vintage West Germany papier-mâché Easter egg candy holder half featuring a wonderfully nostalgic rabbit illustration against a bright red background with decorative spring floral branches and a patterned paper interior. The colorful lithographed design has lovely old-world Easter appeal, with the rabbit portrait remaining the focal point and the interior lined in a delicate black floral print. This is one half only of the original egg-shaped candy container; the matching half is not included.
It shows expected age and storage wear, including surface scratches and scuffs, rubbing and small areas of image/color loss, a larger patch of paper/finish loss on the red exterior, wear and chipping along the rim, and several small splits/cracks and losses around the papier-mâché edge. There is also general toning and wear to the interior consistent with age.
Despite the age-related wear, this vintage Easter piece still has wonderful color, character, and display appeal and would make a lovely addition to a holiday or antique collection.
