Vintage PLUMB Official Boy Scouts of America felling axe, featuring the boxed PLUMB maker’s mark and BSA fleur-de-lis emblem stamped into the axe head.
Research into PLUMB Boy Scout axes identifies this configuration as the Official Felling Axe, with this version believed to date from approximately the late 1940s to 1951. A documented 1951 advertisement describes the Official Felling Axe as 27" overall and approximately 3 lbs., closely matching this example.
This axe measures approximately 27" overall and weighs approximately 3 lbs.
The wooden handle shows extremely faint remnants of what appears to be original lettering/marking. The wording is no longer reliably legible, so no specific wording is represented as readable. Please see the close-up photos.
Vintage used condition with age-appropriate wear throughout. The steel head shows oxidation, surface wear, pitting/discoloration and evidence of prior use/sharpening. Both the boxed PLUMB stamp and BSA fleur-de-lis emblem remain visible. Wooden handle shows scratches, wear, finish loss and other signs of age and use.
A scarce early PLUMB/Boy Scouts axe with excellent crossover appeal for vintage axe, American tool and BSA/Scouting collectors.
